Grantmaking – Neighborhood grants

For the last 47 years, CitizensNYC has been awarding micro-grants for community building projects. The funds come from a combination of private foundations, corporate sponsors, and individual donations.

Neighborhood Business Grants
Supported by Wells Fargo
Grants up to $10,000 will fill gaps in funding by prioritizing businesses owned by people of color, immigrants, and women. While small businesses have kept their doors open, there is a significant need for assistance to fund business continuity. This period of recovery is a pivotal point to keep going. Proposals that focus on both physical and human infrastructure will be prioritized (technical system upgrades, location alterations, hiring support, marketing, training, PPE, etc.). We make grants to barber shops, restaurants, food carts, vegetable stands, eCommerce and other small businesses. Unlike many financial opportunities currently available to small businesses, this program will provide grants rather than loans.

All In Neighborhood Grants
CitizensNYC awards micro-grants up to $5,000 to community building projects carried out by resident-led groups to address issues they identify as important to them. Today, our grantmaking focuses on supporting projects that improve neighborhood life, strengthen local leadership, and scale community partnerships. We invest in neighborhood-led efforts to build a NYC that benefits all, especially in times of crises. Grassroots leaders, especially in low-income communities, know and have what it takes to roll up their sleeves and make change to boost civic engagement, neighborhood wealth, and community health.
